Shibarium, the Layer-2 scaling solution for the Shiba Inu ecosystem, is set to receive a significant upgrade aimed at improving its security and scalability. Shiba Inu’s marketing executive, Lucie, confirmed that the upcoming upgrade will focus on Puppynet, Shibarium’s testnet.

TogglePuppynet to Integrate Ethereum’s Best Practices
The Puppynet upgrade is scheduled for Friday at 2:30 a.m. ET at block 4,697,000. Key updates include the Bor upgrade to version 1.3.7-bone-beta and the Cancun hard fork implementation. These enhancements will improve network performance, strengthen security, and optimize efficiency, providing users with a better overall experience.
“This upgrade is crucial for developers! We’re rolling out exciting changes to make things run smoother, faster, and safer,” explained Lucie.
By integrating Ethereum’s core software, Geth, into Shibarium’s testnet, advanced features like quicker smart contract execution, better peer-to-peer networking, and enhanced block propagation will be introduced. This integration will also improve Shibarium’s proof-of-stake (PoS) bridge, facilitating seamless cross-chain asset transfers between Shibarium and other blockchains.
Gas Fees, Security, and Storage Optimizations
In addition to these upgrades, the update will lower gas fees, making transactions more affordable. It will also include historical data pruning to reduce disk space usage, ensuring Shibarium remains lightweight as the network grows. Security improvements will feature better error handling, vulnerability patches, and bug fixes to enhance overall safety.
After the upgrade, users can expect faster transactions, better security, more reliable cross-chain transfers, and improved disk space management. According to Lucie, these improvements could accelerate Shibarium’s adoption, potentially increasing the rate of SHIB token burns.
“To reduce the SHIB supply meaningfully, we need millions, even billions, of users! Our goal is to build an ecosystem that attracts a massive user base, and the more people use Shibarium, the more SHIB will be burned, driving its value up over time,” Lucie elaborated.
Node Operators and Future Plans
The Shiba Inu team has advised node operators to update their software to version 1.3.7-bone-beta before the Cancun hard fork goes live. This upgrade is part of Shiba Inu’s larger strategy to advance the SHIB ecosystem. Last month, Lucie revealed plans to introduce decentralized governance, further showcasing the project’s commitment to growth and innovation.
With these upgrades, Shibarium continues to demonstrate the Shiba Inu team’s focus on evolving the ecosystem, positioning itself as a key player in the broader blockchain landscape.
